The mission of Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital is to provide compassionate, professional healthcare to the people we serve.

The vision of Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital is to create a culture of service and operational excellence - always making the Hospital a better place for our patients to receive care, our employees to work, and our physicians to practice.

In the late 1920's, the community of El Dorado recognized the need for a modern hospital. Frank S. Allen, a prominent businessman in the community, contributed the land and $100,000 for a hospital named in honor of his mother, Susan B. Allen. The balance of the funds needed to build and equip the Hospital was contributed by local citizens. The Hospital opened its doors on September 19, 1931. In 1934, the F.S. Allen School of Nursing began educating and training nurses, which continued until 1961. Throughout the years, a number of additions have taken place, making the facility unique in the range of services offered for its size. Today, Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit, general acute care hospital that includes a home health agency, a dialysis center and a cancer center. The Hospital is governed by a local board of citizens, and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

The sole purpose of the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Foundation is to receive charitable gifts to be used for maintaining and improving the programs and services of Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. The Foundation is separate from the Hospital and operates under its own board of directors. It is dedicated to helping the Hospital fulfill its mission to the community. A foundation offers tax advantages to contributors and provides a more effective vehicle for the investment and management of various types of funds.
Ways to Give and the Benefits
You may designate any area of hospital care for your donation or allow the Foundation to select an area in the Hospital which has the greatest need. You may designate a gift in memory of someone, which is an excellent way to honor a special person.
Gifts of cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, wills and life insurance are accepted by the Foundation. Gifts can also be made through a trust agreement. You can arrange your donation so that both you and the Hospital receive maximum benefit. You should contact your attorney, banker, accountant or insurance agent for advice regarding tax savings and compliance with tax laws prior to making large gifts. Please contact Mary Luebbert, the Director of Development at the Foundation by calling 316.321.8741, or e-mail her at mluebbert@sbamh.org
