Childbirth Education Classes

The Susan B. Allen Family Birth Center staff offers Free Childbirth Education to any expecting Mom, whether she plans to deliver at Susan B. Allen or another facility.

The classes have been designed to provide the new Mom-to-be and her significant other (or coach) information about labor and delivery, comfort measures, pain management, newborn care, recovery and discharge.

The class gives the participants information about the entire process of delivering at Susan B. Allen.  It provides an opportunity for patients to learn what to expectbe and to feel comfortable with the serivces and facility, and be able to ask questions in a comfortable, non-threatening environment.

The classes are being held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.  – 2:30 p.m. in the Wiedemann Health Education Center on the Susan B. Allen campus, and a light sandwich lunch is served.  It is recommended that patients sign up for the class by the 34th week of pregnancy, if possible, and can do so by calling the SBA Family Birth Center at 316.322.4536.

Susan B. Allen’s ability to offer these classes at no cost has been made possible through funding provided by the SBAMH Foundation.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) Recognized Program is instructed by a team of health care professionals consisting of clinical dietitians, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, social workers, an optometrist and an exercise specialist, who work closely together to provide the participant with consistent, useful information.

The program is presented in two daily sessions and has been designed to accept the person with diabetes and a care partner. Information covered during the program includes exercise instruction and demonstration, practical meal planning, emotional adjustment/stress management, demonstration of blood glucose meters, diabetic eye care, and home schedules and resources.
