Our clinical dietitians tailor their approach to help you succeed.

The Nutrition Services Department at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital has the knowledge and skills you can trust to separate fact from fiction and enable you to make informed food decisions for your eating pleasure and health.

Susan B. Allen’s Nutrition Services includes a staff of Registered Dietitians that work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the best nutritional care in a supportive environment. Our goal is to provide evidenced-based nutrition care for treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and to promote nutritional health for adults and children.
 

Because nutrition is an essential part of healthier living, Susan B. Allen's Nutritional Services Department offers a variety of services to help you succeed:

Inpatient Dietitian Services

The Inpatient Dietitians at SBAMH provide nutrition support for patients who are unable to eat, as well as assess nutritional status and implement strategies for improvement, and educate patients on medical nutrition therapy for various diseases and stages of illness. They work closely with your physician and other providers in determining what's best for you.

Weigh-of-Life Express

Designed to help you make those needed lifestyle changes, one step at a time, Weigh-of-Life Express can fit even the busiest schedule.  Facilitating a healthy lifestyle change is the ultimate goal of Weigh-of-Life Express. After an initial outpatient consultation, our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist will schedule brief follow-up visits to help keep you on track with your goals. Weigh-of-Life Express is great for those needing:

  • Weight Loss
  • Disease Management, such as diabetes or blood-sugar mangement
  • Weight Gain
  • Beginning and maintaing a healthy eating plan

Healthy U Classes

Eating a balanced diet rich with vitamins and nutrients is important for your health. Proper nutrition helps with weight control, disease treatment and prevention. Our expert dietitians offer a series of six bi-weekly classes to help you succeed in reaching your goals. Topics covered in the 60-minute classes include:

  • Understanding your food and how it works in your body
  • General guidelines for eating healthier
  • Fruits, Vegetables, Fiber & You
  • Disease Prevention and/or Management - low sugar, low sodium, low fat
  • Making healthy choices at the grocery store
  • Using food to make the most out of your exercise routine

Eat Healthy-Be Healthy Program

The Eat Healthy-Be Healthy Program is a combination of the Weigh-of-Life Express and Healthy U programs. The three month Eat Healthy-Be Healthy program includes:

  • An initial visit and assessment
  • Six 1-hour bi-weekly classes
  • Eight individual sessions
    • Weekly sessions for the first month
    • Bi-weekly sessions for the second and third months
    • Access to a Registered Dietitian via phone or email for general questions relating to diet and healthy eating.

Supermarket Visits

Let one of the Susan B. Allen Nutritionist Services accompany you on a shopping trip. Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist will help you make the best decision in your food choices and answer any questions you may have. This service is available for individuals or groups.

Meet Your Registered Dietitian Nutritionists

The initials RD or RDN indicate completion of an accredited 4-year degree, 1200 hours of supervised practice and having successfully passed an extensive national exam.

Alyce Logsdon
Alyce has been an RDN since 1991. She earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Kansas State University, and completed her Clinical Practicum at the VA Hospital in Topeka, KS. She has also earned a Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Alyce has vast experience in most areas of nutrition and dietetics, specializing in acute care, diabetes management, weight management, kidney disease and heart disease.

 

 

Tammy Ojeda
Tammy has been a RDN since 2006. She earned a Bachelor's of Education Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico. Tammy completed a one year Internship at the VA Hospital in Puerto Rico and is also a Certified Breastfeeding Educator. She is bilingual and offers services in Spanish. Tammy has experience in most areas of nutrition and dietetics, specializing in diabetes education, oncology (cancer), weight management, dialysis/renal, breastfeeding and acute care.
